Bryn Crek -too short title, apparently. lol.

Post  Bryn on Tue Jan 31, 2012 3:11 am

Carve Your Name In History

Irritating Preteens, who think the world is their Oyster. They deserve a harsh wake up call.

We are who we are

Name: Bryn Crek
Age: 27
Trainer Class: VIII
Career: Bug Gym Leader
Likes Ground Type Pokemon, Booze, Peace and Quiet.
Dislikes Bugs, People, Happiness.

Appearance:

  • Hair color: Brown
  • Eye color: Brown
  • Body Type: Stocky

Clothing Wears t-shirts more than any other article of clothing, earth tones more than anything else, though if he's really intoxicated, or just really angry at the world he'll wear something violently pink or puce or some other tie-died mostrosity. In the picture, he's wearing a button up shirt and a hoodie over top, the button up likely to hide an unpleasant stain of some random material he accidentally got on one of his favourite shirts, and the hoodie for comfort in what will usually turn out to be long, drawn out, incredibly irritating fights or talks with people too young to have gone through puberty yet. He likes cargo pants because they're easier not only looser than jeans most of the time, but have many handy pockets in which to hide articles of food, or articles of self defense, etc. He wears run down sneakers because he's not only too lazy to deal with the upkeep required for most shoe types, but he's cheap, and sneakers are cheap.
Personality: Scornful or disdainful, he'd much rather hang out in the woods with some sort of beverage and snarl at people who get to close, than sit in his gym and socialize, but he's into the whole gym leader experience because he occasionally gets to put the beat down on some snotty little preteen with delusions of grandeur, who needs a reality check.

I Choose You!

Pokémon: Surskit
Pokémon's Personality: With a lighter hearted trainer than the one it has, it would probably be happy all the time, skipping about, with a very short attention span. Unfortunately, due to the influence he's had upon it over such a long timespan, it is a dour, slower moving pokemon that focuses entirely on the battle when used, and has little time for frippery, as little as the actual trainer does.
Moves:

  • Hydro Pump
  • Rain Dance
  • Frustration
  • Scald
Ability: Rain Dish: If Heavy Rain weather is in effect, recovers 1/16th max Hit Points at the end of the turn.
Tier: VIII
Extra: Bryn's first caught Pokemon, he got help from a local older boy to catch it, and it was not his first choice. Bitter about it, but not quite able to let it go, since it was a reminder of times of old when he was actually happy, he instead refused to let it evolve in a twisted sort of revenge directed at it instead of elsewhere. Thus its use of Frustration in its moveset.

Pokémon: Scolipede
Pokémon's Personality: Taciturn and calm, it tolerates everything with the same reaction of silent observance. The only time its demeanor changes is when in battle, at which time it becomes far more agressive in a sort of feeling of protectiveness towards its master, who it often believes to be weak on some levels.
Moves:

  • Toxic
  • Earthquake
  • Venoshock
  • Steamroller
Ability: Poison Point: The opponent has a 30% chance of being induced with POISON when using an attack that requires physical contact against this Pokémon.
Tier: VIII
Extra: Probably the only Pokemon in his collection that Bryn actually likes, it is the only one that spends more time outside of a pokeball than inside one in his company. Due to its abilities, it probably reminds him of his favourite pokemon types, and almost acts as a comfort blanket when the rage about his position surfaces.

Pokémon: Ninjask
Pokémon's Personality: Ninjask is the only pokemon in his party smart enough to realize how little their trainer cares for most of them, while at the same time being focused enough on violent pursuits that it doesn't care. It is confrontational in nature.
Moves:

  • X-Scissor
  • Night Slash
  • Giga Drain
  • Swords Dance
Ability: Speed Boost: Speed increases by one stage each turn except the turn that the Pokémon is switched into battle.
Tier: VIII

Pokémon: Heracross
Pokémon's Personality: Heracross is just a little dim in the head, not realizing his owners feelings, but is also relatively unaware of other living beings most of the time, unless in battle, far more content to go off and do his own thing.
Moves:

  • Megahorn
  • Brick Break
  • Swords Dance
  • Focus Blast
Ability: Guts: Attack raises to 1.5 times when induced with a status (BURN, PARALYZE, SLEEP, POISON, FREEZE). BURN’s effect of lowering Attack is not applied.
Tier: VIII

Pokémon: Forretress
Pokémon's Personality: It has no ability to make noises, but is very friendly nonetheless, making a mock of the rudeness of its trainer by bumping up against people in a friendly manner, rubbing faces with larger pokemon who tolerate it, and giving rides to smaller.
Moves:

  • Gyro Ball
  • Heavy Slam
  • Explosion
  • Poison Spikes
Ability: Sturdy: The Pokémon is unaffected by One Hit Knock Out moves and in Generation V, the Pokémon cannot be knocked out when it has full Hit Points.
Tier: VIII
Extra: Needless to say, Bryn does not like its happy attitude.

Pokémon: Shedinja
Pokémon's Personality: Quiet and ghostly, a little on the slow side, mentally speaking, this pokemon reacts to very little, which suits both it and its master just fine, considering how little they like each other.
Moves:

  • Frustration
  • Endure
  • Protect
  • Substitute
Ability: Wonder Guard: The Pokémon is only harmed by Super Effective damage, weather effects and condition effects.
Tier: VIII

Step Into My Life

History:
Spoiler:
Born in a small town, just like nearly every other famous trainer in the world, his parents, and then he himself as he grew older, had high hopes for his future as a trainer, as it was clear that was what he was going to do with his life when he turned 10. His parents were average parents, his lack of siblings were as normal as a lack of siblings could have been, had they existed, since they didn't. He was a typical child in a typical world, preoccupied with playing in the dirt, making mud pies and the like, watching the caterpies and such from a distance, filled with fear of the possibility or spearows, the bane of every child trainer before he gets his first pokemon. The sight of such would send him scurrying homeward, leaving his pile of dirt and imagined gravelers and onixes -indications of his pokemon preferences even as early as age five or six- behind to be wiped from existence in the passage of many pokemon over the next several days, as it takes him that long to sneak out of the house, back to the tall grass where the pokemon are, a place he shouldn't go without his mother or father, both of which had a singular pokemon throughout his childhood, a Pidgey and a Spearow that scared him almost as much as their wild counterparts did.

When he reached his age of adventuring, 10; rather than being given a pokemon by the professor, as is the custom in so many places, the professor instead gave an older child at home for a holiday some small change to take him out with his very own pokeball, and teach him how to catch a pokemon. The child, being focused on the money, rather than the experience, hurriedly caught him a surskit, brought him back to town, then ditched him at his house and promptly left town, as far as Bryn new, dropping off the face of the earth. Naturally, this was not exactly the pleasant experience Bryn had expected, and as he was seen out of town by his mother and father, the smile on his face did not reflect his inner disgruntled feelings.

His first few gyms, his disgruntled feelings did not fade, and it takes him about 5 years to finish his first 3, his anger growing as he catches more and more bugs because they're easy, and it wasn't as if his lesson was the greatest ever. He also has little to no luck catching rock or ground type pokemon, as it's either his bad luck, or his tendency to explode with anger and accidentally beat them to the point where they can no longer be caught with any efficiency. His next 5 gyms take even longer to beat. He's only been a gym leader a year or two, and he's in his mid 20's looking like a 30 year old, thanks to the stress and the alcohol. It took him a decade and a half to beat all eight gyms.

Speaking of alcohol, it's a habit he's only had since about his seventh gym, when he realized that he was probably never going to catch his favourite pokemon, and probably never going to be as famous as him his parents wanted him to be. Thus the alcoholism, and the hermit-like behavior. Then he beats the final gym by the skin of his teeth, and goes back to his parents at home, who are now much, much older, as he himself is in his early 20's, and gets very, very, very drunk with his father.

He spends a day or two in a semi-comatose recovery, then leaves and hasn't been back to his home town since. Before he left, at some point in his comatose state, he made the decision to beat a gym leader out of their position and just stay there, wherever he ends up, until he's either got to retire, or someone else beats him out of the position. His random choice is the bug gym, which in his mind is such, but to an outside observer might be obvious, seeing as he has a full team of bug types. He wins, and there he stays. He hasn't left a several mile radius of the gym since, basically only going outside city limits to drink in the woods in peace at night.

RP Sample:
Spoiler:
Sigh. Another fieldtrip. Why oh why did daddy have to leave instructions when he left, that I was to be permitted to go on any fieldtrips that happened in his absence? I was hoping he's forget, so I could skip it. "Grr." I mean, the Great Library of Kyre? What use is the "Great" Library to a bunch of snivelling 12 year olds? They'll probably end up using the pages of some rare and priceless book to wipe their arses when the teacher isn't looking. "Why did I have to get stuck in a class that believes in school fieldtrips to places way outside the age group of the class, and especially one that believes in group work on the subject. I have no desire to get stuck doing a book report on "The Three Little Pigs" as written in some ancient childrens book, with the help of three or more snivelling idiots." This is said in little more than a mumble, earning her a sharp look from the teacher sitting little further than three seats up the length of the bus, as it travelled on the way to the Library. Sae looked down and away to escape the teacher's glare. She wasn't interested in drawing attention to herself, the better for her to sneak away.

Long after they'd crossed the border into Kyré, they stopped at a rest stop for food, letting the masses of children off of the bus. Well, that was a stupid decision. Now it'll take them at least two hours to round up all the little fools. Not stopping to fully think through her decision, as that would've probably gotten her caught, or caused her to miss her chance, Sae waited for the teachers and most of the students to be looking the other way, and, casting a fierce glare of warning at those few children still paying attention to her, dodged away around the side of the building. Waiting for her chance, after the teachers had all gone out of the store to catch the children and round them up into the bus, she dodged through the store's door, and furtively bought a map of the area with her small amount of pocket change from the vendor.

After that, she ran off into the brush and sat to look at her map. It looked like the only interesting place to go was someplace called the Whispering Forest, though she wondered why the name was written in such a small and furtive manner, considering the apparent size of the place in comparison to the tiny rest stop of a town they'd just stopped in and how the town had a much larger name. Decision made, she set off towards where it was supposed to be, completely disregarding the rest stop and the bus surrounded by children that accompanied it, except to note that it looked like a curiously large disturbed anthill.

---

Much later, stumbling to a halt at the edge of what she assumed was the forest, she grinned in triumph, for, despite her aching legs, she had made it to her destination. Surveying her immediate area, it appeared she stood at the edge of a wood. There did not appear to be anything super special about the forest, save that it was well preserved, and Sae decided to venture further in, to see if she could discover what was so special about it that it deserved mention on the map.

A little later, she was very lost. Up until this point, she also hadn't come across anything particularly noteworthy. Grr. I used so much effort to get here instead of that stupid library, and not only am I lost, but I haven't seen anything neat. Shortly after finishing her thought, though, the random stretch of forest she was exploring opened up, to reveal a lovely, crystal clear lake, whose water was still and blue, a bit of a surprising colour, considering all the green around. In the middle of the lake was a tree. Now this is neat. I wonder what kind of tree that is?

So thinking, she sat on the edge of the lake, legs crossed, skirt carefully tucked, 'cause you never knew who could be watching, and, chin in palm, proceeded to gaze around the lake and think about what to do next.

Love Interest: Nope
Family: Probably has family, somewhere. Doesn't visit, doesn't call, doesn't send letters. Last time he saw them was when he went home to show off his 8th badge, and got unbearably drunk with his father.
Rivals: Not Friendly competition, no. Unfriendly, sure. Nearly everybody else on the planet.
Best Friends/s: Scolipede

Yo, Bryn. If you're gonna be Ground-type Gym then all your Pokemon need to be ground type, at least all of them in your app. You can have non ground type in your PC.

But I'm supposed to be a bug type gym. o.O xD

It was deliberate, the character wanting ground type, but not getting it.

It's not really that weird. He dislikes bugs only because they weren't his first choice. He's good at training them is the thing, and is just cursed bad at catching ground types.
